Woman breastfeeding in museum

It's the ultimate in irony. A mom was recently shamed for nursing her baby in a museum featuring topless female statues. Some are shown nursing their babies. And this was during World Breastfeeding Week. Yeah, I'll wait while you roll your eyes.

The incident happened at London's V&A Museum and was chronicled by the shamee, on Twitter at the handle @Vaguechera. In her now-viral post, the user shares a photo of herself and her little one, in front of a statue of a baby being breastfed by a mother. The caption explained, "Flashed a nanosecond of nipple while #breastfeeding and was asked to cover up in @V_and_A courtyard. Am perplexed…."

Yeah, we are too.

Of course, this isn't the first time a mom has been shamed for nursing in public. But the paradox here just especially prompts one to say, "Huh?" In fact, @Vaguechera went on to share more images of the "mammaries" on display at the museum, of which there were many.

We applaud this mama for standing up for herself, and admire her lighthearted take on her shaming situation. To be fair, the museum has since reached out to her with an apology via Twitter, writing "V sorry. Our policy is clear: women may breastfeed wherever they like, wherever they feel comfortable & shld not be disturbed."

Unfortunately, it seems this mom has been pestered on social media by folks who are against breastfeeding. She was prompted to share on Twitter, "Have tried to stay good humoured but now quite weary of being made a lightening rod for people's conflicted ideas about #breastfeeding."

Sigh. Here's hoping the support this mother receives will outweigh the criticism. We certainly have your back!
