Breakfast sausage fans, beware: CTI Foods is recalling over 29,000 pounds of frozen Jimmy Dean pork and turkey sausage links. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the sausage links may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.
The ready-to-eat sausage links included in the recall were produced and packaged on August 4, 2018. Luckily, you only need to check your freezer for one product:
You can also look for the establishment number “EST. 19085” on the back of the product packaging. The items included in the recall were shipped to an establishment in Tennessee before being distributed to retail stores.
The problem was discovered on December 10, when the FSIS was notified that five consumer complaints had been made about metal pieces in the sausage links (yikes!). Thankfully, there haven’t been any reports of any illness or injury caused by the recalled sausage.
Since the sausage included in the recall doesn’t expire until the end of January, the FSIS is concerned that consumers might have the product in their freezers. Check now, and if you have any packages of the recalled sausage, throw them out now so you don’t forget later.
