Before you do any baking, make sure you take a look at the info printed on your bag of flour. On Friday, Hometown Food Company announced a voluntary recall of Pillsbury Unbleached All-Purpose Flour due to possible salmonella contamination. Both Winn-Dixie and Publix have announced that some of the flour may have been sold in their stores and posted recall notices online.
According to the Publix notice, over 12,000 cases of the flour were distributed to retailers nationwide. Luckily, there haven’t been any reports of anyone getting sick from the flour yet, and no other Pillsbury products are included in the recall.
Only Pillsbury Unbleached All-Purpose Flour is included in the recall. To check if a bag you have is part of the recall, look for the case item number GTIN # 0 5150022241 3. Also look for the lot codes 8 292 and 8 293, with a “best if used by” date of April 19, 2020.
If you have any of the flour included in the recall in your pantry, toss it out or return it to the store for a refund. Right now, no information has been announced about how the flour might’ve been contaminated with salmonella, but it’s a good reminder not to eat any recipes that use raw flour, like cookie dough (unless you make a version without raw flour that’s safe to eat).
